胡柯的作品中有一种莫名的哀伤。他作品中的女人并不是百无聊赖，而是内心深处的情欲得不到满足。久而久之，女人不仅将失去情欲的对象，而且也将很快失去情欲本身，哀伤即源于此。在此基础上，胡柯在他的作品中展现了人与哀伤的对抗，人并不甘于在哀伤的情绪中沉沦，而是希望在享受哀伤感的同时，得到新生的未来。所以胡柯作品中的人物，尽管多数都与外物保持着欲走还留的关系，但都会面朝天空的方向。
观看胡柯的作品似乎也要求观者的心思在天空的那一边，甚至是在观者思索的时候无意间撞上的。对颜色的注重是胡柯作品的另一大特征，其雕塑光亮炫目，不为追逐潮流，而是隐喻现世的浮华，说明人陷于其中，但自拔是其唯一选择。胡柯在作品中逐渐确立了一个明确的主体，并把她安置在各种场景之下，试图展示她面临的多重困境。我感兴趣的也正是胡柯在作品中为她配置的各类道具，这些道具使得雕塑的场域得到了扩展，它们都有很强的暗示性，暗示出人物所处的场景与人物内心的情绪之间的关系。
