这首先在于他的作品消解了传统绘画在构图上的均衡和稳定,更多地具有一种不平衡感和不稳定感,这样就使画面在单纯的背景上更大程度地存留了更多的空间,从而表达更为充实的个人体验和内心感受。
在有关“孩子状态”的作品里,单纯、强烈的色彩增添了画面的可爱情调,幸福就从此产生了。

他的作品所关注的焦点并非是传统意义上的重大题材,而是诸如孩童成长等等生活中人们都非常熟悉的人和事,因此他的作品传递给人的是一种亲切、可爱、幸福的感受。画面单纯、优雅,造型上融入了卡通艺术的一些风格特征。语言明确,在色彩运用与画面处理上显现出这个年龄段的画家少有的成熟思索与熟练把握。
更重要的是在一种似乎不相干的戏谑中增添了作品本身的情感表达。

Nanfang is one of painters born in 1970’s. The peaceful and quiet social environment and the well-being growth experience make his works different from the mood of deepness and heaviness expressed by the painters born before 1960’s
The focus of his works is not the major themes in the traditional sense, but the familiar character and affairs of daily life such as the child’s growth to transfer a sense of friendly, lovely and well-being atmosphere. The picture is simple and elegant, the model is integrated with a style of the cartoon features, the language is clear, Nanfang reveals a more deep thinking and sophisticated skills in color application and screen treatment than the painters at the same age.
What’s more important is that emotion is expressed in the seemingly irrelevant joking

My first impression on Nanfang’s oil paintings is very personal. People can get a strong impression from the forms of image to the touch of content, as well as the painting techniques. His intellect and groundings enabled him to refine elements his own art language from the contemporary multi-cultural concepts and innovative techniques, showing not only his difference from the predecessors, but the subtle difference from his peer generation. The generation which Nanfang belongs to has no enormous pressure of the great mission, and their ultimate goal is to depict the ‘self’. Nanfang’s oil painting has revealed a clear image of self. What’s more, he put his own unique painting language in the oil paintings making his works refreshing, bright and crisp, fresh and rich. The touch of his oil paintings reveals boldly and truly the existing status, aesthetic orientation of the epigenetic generation. Their goals become more exact and true in the new era of broad cultural horizons and rich art forms. They are real and sincere not only in their painting but as a man for they are the new generations-the generation of non-hypocritical!

南方的作品,最吸引人的莫过于内容的趣味性和感情的纯真。在南方的画面里,我们看不到丝毫的张狂与粗野,只有许多能够引起幸福感觉的小镜头——追逐蜻蜓、蝴蝶的小孩子,吃西瓜的小孩子,低下头从两腿中间调皮看你的小孩子……小孩成了南方绘画的主要模特,这正是南方的“狡猾”之处,把小孩子的调皮劲儿、可爱劲儿画出来了,他的作品也就能因此轻而易举地俘获观者的心了。但是能把这种“劲儿”画的出来却是不容易的,或许是为了能够更明显的表现这些东西,南方改变了传统的绘画元素和规则,更多的运用不平衡感和不稳定性,再加上随意而跳动的笔触,这就增加了与读者的视觉互动和心灵互动,让读者自己从作品中读出这些感觉来。鲁迅对美术创作曾有过一段论述,大意是说二流的画家只能画的“像”,而一流的画家却能画出画的背后那些不可名状的感觉。可以说,鲁迅的这段话就是对南方作品的最好评价。

The most attractive points in Nanfang’s works are the interesting contents and innocent feelings. There are no slightest insolent and unruly in NanFang’s works, but numerous touching catches: child chasing dragon flies and butterflies, child eating watermelon, child bending his head and watching you between his legs… child is the main model in NanFang’s paintings to displays NanFang’s smartness. When you draw out child’s mischievous and lovable spirits, it is very easy to capture people’s heart. But it’s very hard to display this kind of spirit. Maybe in order to show this vividly, Nanfang has changed some elements and rule in traditional paintings. He makes use of lots of unbalance and instability in his painting with randomly beating brush strokes which add up the viewers’ visual and spiritual interaction and allow viewers to get these from the paintings by themselves. Luxun had made some comments on art creation, which mainly means that the second –rate painters can only paint in close similarity, but the first – class artist can draw out those unexplainable feelings. It can be said the comment of Luxun is the best assessment to NanFang’s works.
