学习工笔画出生的丁蓓莉，有着非常扎实的传统功底，其创作之初是以对花卉的另类描绘起步的，那一时期的作品造型洗练，用笔清秀，设色淡雅，构图疏朗，富有极简主义般的美学特征。后来，她开始把目光投向窗外，关注日常生活中的风景，于是，那些平凡的建筑物、树木、烟囱、云彩和天空都开始在她的笔下变得诗意盎然。丁蓓莉的近作是一系列海边的风景。她用类似电影空镜头般的视角和跨越东西方绘画风格的语言，把烟波浩淼的大海表现得神秘莫测，那种灰白迷茫的色调与她近年来的摄影实验不无关联，但画面内在的意境却又令人联想起宋元绘画的萧瑟。自此，丁蓓莉的绘画又有了新的起点，工笔语汇不再是她唯一的表达手段，她的风格已经走向更广阔的空间。

Ding Beili is a talent painter who was well educated in traditional painting, and has a very solid skills and knowledge in the field. She started her creativity from flower paintings and her works were elegant in color, composited well, rich in aesthetic characteristics. Later, she began to set her sights onto the scenery in daily lives, and any objects, ordinary buildings, trees, chimneys, clouds and the sky came onto her paper in a poetic way. Her recent series of seaside scenery show us a mysterious sea by film-like shoot and perspective language that crossed the East and the West cultures, grey color, confused sense, which relates closely to her photography practice in recent years. And her image is a strong suggestion that make viewers to think of the stagnant society in the Song and Yuan Dynasty. Traditional elaborate-style painting is not her skill only for expression, and she is marching on in a wide space.
