Recommendation
By Chen Danqing
I would like to the new works of Peng Wei as “dual finished products” because the materials she used are so easy to gain, which are the rice paper used to pack the plastic model and the female mode itself, in the dress shop. That’s so slight paper on which any landscape, insect, figure, and the kind become a mockery to the classics of Chinese ink-painting, and the color use has its object gained three-dimensional attribute which is also a reverse to the traditional plane. On the surface of the object she paints with colors so we even become difficult to judge whether we should call it as painting or sculpture. Most of people like to regard it as a vague device art based on sculpture, yet the painter needs still to draw on the rice paper, and the difference is that her drawing is on the surface of a status when you appreciate, a three-dimensional space. I don’t know whether the space shift and development means profoundly or not.
Our native artists of the last generation were ever inspired much by the western POP art, as for Peng Wei it is as a game for the painter, she regards it is a linger way, Art is often inspired in the game. Worldwide “experimental art” surely make impact on the painter much, so we can see more enjoyment, slight sense rather than serious topics. From her Embroider Shoes and Silk Dress, we may see the symbol of both Chinese tradition and the simple modern symbol. We may pleasure for the fact that her works in both traditional ink-painting essence and the revolutionary three-dimensional space. That’s really fresh and gratifying.
