90年代以后,邹建平敏感地意识到,水墨画的发展仅仅靠向传统发难是远远不够的,在《一束阳光》和《小谢》画面上追求压抑感、拥挤感、时尚感及象征意味,他借助水墨与流行文化产生千丝万缕的联系;他运用减法,尽可能的去掉那些与画面无关的笔墨,让我们处在一个神秘而黑暗的空间中,令人窒息和压抑。邹建平不是传统意义上的“仕女”画家, “她”是一个无处不在每画必现因而被推向前台的元素, 在“她”的背后有一个由包括男人在内的多种元素构成的复杂世界, 使不变的女人凸现为艺术的主体, 从而具有象征画家精神与心理状态的符号意义。邹建平向人们展示的女性是古典的、积极的、甚至有些浪漫幻想的, 这与他自已的生活经验有关, 甚至还与当代语境下大众文化对女性的态度有关。
邹建平又被逼进一个新的境界,于是删繁就简、素服淡装,捉弄出一批批城市女人,春光下的女人,沐浴的女人、饮葡萄酒的女人、休闲的女人、女人、女人……灯影和光斑下的摩登女子,使人想起三十年代的名优阮玲玉和蝴蝶,想起旧上海的“月份牌”上们仕女……在邹建平的画幅中,一下子沉静了许多,一下子纯净了许多。他仿佛从自我固执和繁缛的情欲、物欲的迷妄中解脱出来,驱散深层意识中的阴暗心理和乌烟瘴气,释放那些幽禁了多少年代的梦魇,还原清白无暇的天真,重返净土故里,倒空心中收藏的观念、意向。此时,形式与气氛得以提升,内容以脱离思想负荷变得轻松起来,邹建平的画由此进入新境。

Rising in revolt to the tradition is not enough for ink-painting development, Zou Jianping has had the idea since late 90s. Zou is excellent to present depressive, crowded feelings with his fashionable images, which often are full of symbolic significance by using a kind of subtraction to reduce the miscellaneous and other bodies as possible as he could do. The space he presents us is hollow and dark and depressive. His lady portraits far beyond the traditional ones are often a compound contained many factors including male, so they are symbolic and psychological. The female in his work is classic, active, optimistic, even a little bit romantic and fantastic, which relates to his personal life experience and feminism trend in public culture context in our age as well.
The brand-new stage of Zou’s painting is his work on ladies in the metropolis, one by one and batch by batch, the lady in the spring light, or the lady in bathing, the lady who are drinking vine, the leisure lady, the modern fashion lady and the kind, all the ladies. It is for us to recall the famous actress Ruan Lingyu in the Butterfly Dream in the 30s in old Shanghai, or any other the beauty on the calendar. All the ladies are pure and tranquil, seeming that all their desires have been already released completely, any persistent, pride, prejudice, ardour or materialistic desire is released from their original illusionism, dim, heavily polluted, yearly mured nightmare, concept and idea, and they show naïve angle-like looks when they are empty. They become more beautiful and light when they took off their worldly burdens and their hearts not full of contents. This is the brand-new stage of the painter Zou.
