在我年幼的时候，摄影对我来说如水与空气那样重要。我的父亲拍摄下了很多我们两兄弟的照片，在我上小学的时候，他给我和弟弟各买了一台小型相机。我们非常痴迷于摄影，还自己做了相册与幻灯片，至今它们还存留在父母家中的库房之中。现在，我们居住在京都，但是我父亲的祖籍却在距离琵琶湖很近的一个小镇。在假期的时候，他经常开车带我们两兄弟到琵琶湖游玩。
虽然现在我们居住在京都，但每天都食用着琵琶湖水。摄影、琵琶湖与我之间的联系已有很长一段时间，但是摄影与琵琶湖的结合却是在5年之前。这让我感受很深：我忽略了身边存在的事物，对异域风光过于关注了。
当我见到一位旅居在加利福尼亚的英国摄影师Michael Kenna拍摄的照片时，我被他的照片彻底地感动了。照片非常美丽，宁静，而且多数拍摄于琵琶湖。此时，我发现最美的风景并不在异域他国，而恰恰在我的身边！有人可能会注意到Michael的照片对我的拍摄产生了一定的影响，但是我只想用照片的形式来表现自己对琵琶湖的敬意与感激，它们使我的这组照片更加动人。
今天，大多数摄影师沉浸在数码摄影的硕果之中，但我却始终坚持手工银盐制作，所有像片制作过程都采用手工完成，一丝不苟，因为我喜欢手工制作。
此次展览是我的第十个个展。也是琵琶湖系列的第4次展览（此前在东京、京都与汉城展出）。我于2004年开始拍摄这一系列，每次展出之时，我都会加入新摄影作品。琵琶湖系列在北京的展出对我意义非凡。中国人对这一系列的作品的感受会是怎么呢？这是我最感兴趣的事情，并且我希望能够直接地聆听他们对作品的心声。中、日、韩三国历史渊源悠久，所以能在这三个国家分别举行个展确是在下的荣幸。
Since I was a little boy, photography has been intimate like water and air. My father took many photographs of his children and when I was elementary school student he bought a small camera for me and my younger brother. We were absorbed in taking photographs and made albums and slide shows. They are still kept in a storehouse of my parent's house. My family has been living in Kyoto but my father's family origin was rooted in
a small town near Lake Biwa. So he often took us to Lake Biwa driving his car in holidays.
In Kyoto we drink water of Lake Biwa everyday. I have been closely related with photography and Lake Biwa for long time, but these two things were combined in myself only five years ago. We don't notice often things which exist very near to us, on the other hand we always adore exotic landscapes.
When I saw works Michael Kenna, a british photographer now lives in California, I was deeply hit by his pictures. They are very beautiful and quiet and more, many of them were took in Lake Biwa. I noticed that the most fascinating landscapes are not far in foreign countries but very near! Someone notices his influence on my pictures but I want express my deep respect and gratitude to Lake Biwa in my pictures and this attitude makes this series more touching.
Today we can enjoy fruits of digital photography but I always make my works in gelatin silver prints by myself. I make all processes by myself because I like artisanal work as well.
This is my 10th solo exhibition and 4th of this series. I began to take this series since 2004 and every time I showed this series, I added new works. In Tokyo, Kyoto and Seoul I made exhibition of this series and this year I make it in Beijing. I am very much interested in how chinese people find these pictures. I am very looking forward to hearing their impressions directly. China, Korea and Japan have been keeping close relationships for longtime and I am very happy photographer who can make solo exhibition in these three counties.
