回顾中国当代艺术,自早期前卫艺术点燃对新文化的期盼,历“’85新潮美术”洗礼,至“’89后艺术”,迎来90年代波普风潮、近距离绘画、都市人文, 导致世纪之交呈现出多元化发展的创作局面,历经艰辛,令人感慨。在此,我向所有坚持当代艺术批评与创作的探索者们致以深深的敬意!是你们用自己的独立思考与不懈努力,持续推动中国当代艺术的发展,表达个体对中国现代性的强烈诉求!充分彰显了中国知识分子血脉深处流淌的责任与抱负。
今天,中国当代艺术以其令人瞩目的创造力,赢得全世界前所未有的关注,成为国家文化发展战略中重要的组成部分。本次展览的举办,正是对中国当代艺术三十多年的发展历程及取得的成果给予最充分的展示。展览汇聚了近300位中国当代艺术最具代表性的老中青年艺术家。并对其中所呈现出的艺术现象和学术课题进行深入探讨。重要的是,本次展览特地将中国台湾地区纳入其中,对台湾近三十年来的艺术进行一个综合的考察、研究与展示,并将其置于中国新的历史语境中进行判断。通过大陆与台湾两地艺术家们的交流,加强海峡两岸的文化对话,展现两岸文化的同根同源性。其目的在为当代艺术提供丰富的理论研究,及话语实践平台,促使新观念得以不断地激活与转换。这本身就是尊重学术、促进本土艺术发展的有力举措。
在此,作为本届展览的执行主席,衷心希望本届展览能够为中国当代艺术的健康发展注入创新力量,也希望从事当代艺术研究与创作的理论家、批评家与艺术家能够保持敏锐的思维和无限的活力,真正成为建设中国当代文化不可或缺的推动力!目的是我们要用中国当代艺术自身的价值体系与评判标准去影响世界文化的发展。

Contemporary Art—
Power of the Renaissance of
Chinese Culture
Reviewing Chinese contemporary art, we would be touched for the arduous history of it from when the anticipation of new culture was raised by early avant-garde art and then after the baptizing of ’85 New Wave art and Post ’89 art movement, creation situation today of multiple development appeared at the turn of centuries led to the pop tide of 1990s, close painting and urban humanities. Here, I express my deep respect to all the explorers adhering to contemporary art criticism and creation! It’s you who have constantly promoted the development of Chinese contemporary art and expressed your strong appeal to Chinese Modernity with your own independent refection and unremitting efforts! You have fully demonstrated the responsibility and ambition fowing in the blood of Chinese intellectuals.
Today, Chinese contemporary art has gained unprecedented world wide attention with its remarkable creativity and constructed the important part of our national cultural development strategy. The exhibition organized today, is just a most suffcient display of the achievement obtained during the more than 30 years development process by Chinese contemporary art. About 300 most representative Chinese contemporary artists including three generations of the old, the middle-aged and the young participated in this exhibition and the artistic phenomena and academic subjects emerged in is have been deeply discussed. What’s important is that we specially involved Taiwan district into this exhibition to make a comprehensive observation, research and display of art in Taiwan during the last three decades, in order to strengthen the cross-strait cultural dialogue and show that the cultures of both sides have one and the same source. Its target is to provide rich theoretical research and practice stage of discourse for contemporary art and promote the new concepts to be constantly activated and converted, which in itself is a powerful measure to facilitate local art development.
Here, as the executive chairman of this exhibition, I sincerely hope the exhibition would be able to inject creativity power into the healthy development of Chinese contemporary art, and theoreticians, critiques and artists working for contemporary art could keep their keen thought and infnite vitality and become the indispensable impetus to construct Chinese contemporary culture! We are aiming to infuence the development of world culture with the value system and evaluation criteria of Chinese contemporary art.
Finally, I should thank the three curators and all the artists participating in this exhibition! It’s you who have displayed this exhibition of milestone signifcance in the history of Chinese contemporary art with your persistence and faith.
