Sotheby’s Hong Kong held today the Fine Chinese Paintings sale which achieved over HK$182,327,000 (US$23,375,256). Bidding was enthusiastic, active and fervent in a very packed saleroom and over telephone lines.
Today’s sale offered a fresh, well-curated selection to which the market responded with strong demand. The meticulous curation of a series of private and thematic collections was of great appeal to collectors. Interest is significant across the board and at all levels for a wide spectrum of artists and periods.
The top lot of the day is Li Keran’s Tranquil Landscape which sold for HK$7.34 million (over US$941,000), far exceeding the estimate of HK$3-4.5 million.
