王尔德说:每个人的面孔就是一部自传。这种说法和中国相书中的“相由心生”如出一辙,面相究竟能参破几分人生?或许,我们永远都计算不出精确的答案,但却可以从中读出一些心灵密码。当镜头对准生活在北京的普通人的面孔时,我坚信,相机前面是一个个真实的生命,而相机背后则是我的眼睛。对被摄对象最大的尊重来自于真实记录他们的状态。
真实的作品才能成为镜子。在北京这座用王侯将相的丰功伟绩铸就的城市中,我将目光转向了那些沉默的存在,这些人在英雄缔造和书写的历史中没有他们的位子,他们处于任何权利关系之外,但他们始终存在着,他们不仅构成了北京生活的背景,也成为这座城市的主体及根源。这些生活在北京的人们,他们的年龄、经历各不相同,但在真实这面镜子中,他们的面相竟如此地相似,阅读这些面相就好像目睹一个生命个体由成熟到衰老的过程。或许是同样的习俗及生活环境成就了这种代表北京的原型。“人格面具”是荣格提出的重要原型之一,人格面具可以看作是个体展现于社会或他人的那一面,简单地说就是人格的外貌。相由心生,那么人格的外貌不可避免地要在人的面相中显示出来。北京人的成长及衰老的过程都符合这座城市设定的程式。那么,面相趋同的背后是否也意味着人格的千篇一律呢?
我们的变迁不是对过去的否定,我们老去的容颜在记述了个体的生命历程的同时也汇集成北京历史的一部分。此刻,面相不仅是整个人生,也是北京这座城市的自传。

Oscar Wilde said that A man's face is his autobiography.The viewpoint is just the same as “face comes from heart” told by the Chinese traditional books which purport to teach physiognomy reading for fortune telling . But how much can the face display the life? Perhaps we will never have a precise answer, but we can read out some spiritual passwords. When the camera aims at the normal people who live in Beijing, I do believe that it’s a real life displaying in front of the camera, and behind the camera is my eyes. To record their real status is to be the most respectful action for them.
Only the real work can become a mirror. I pay attention to the silent beings in Beijing which is such a city fulfilled with the great achievements of the princely. There are no places in the history created by the heroes for them, and they are out of the political rights. But they are still the beings, a part of the Beijing’s life background, the main body and foundation stone. They are of different ages and experience with the same physiognomy. It seems like discerning the whole life process whilst viewing the different faces. Maybe the similar life habits and surroundings accomplish the life model of Beijing. “Personality Mask” is one of the most important archetypes mentioned by Roger, it could be seemed as the aspects displaying for the society and other people.Essentially speaking, it is the appearance of personality. Due to “Face comes from heart”, the appearance of personality will reveal on the face inevitably. The doting & growing series of Beijing people accord with the fixed program for this city. Accordingly, does the same physiognomies mean the same personalities?
Our changing will not negate the before. Our anile appearances record our life experience while combining to a part of the Beijing’s history. At this moment, the physiognomy is not only the whole life, but also the autobiography of Beijing.
