坤元是本次展览的主题，坤为地，元为根源。指大地为万物生长的根源。刘永刚的艺术是源自生命本源的艺术，讴歌生命的美好，爱的伟大。刘永刚打破了民族与国界的局限，融合了中西方文化，是中国当代杰出的艺术家。
刘永刚从中国传统文化精神入手，融汇西方当代艺术成果，在抽象绘画和抽象雕塑领域进行了深入而系统的探索，形成了鲜明的个人风格。他的作品以线为主，强化线条的力度与变化，追求简洁而大气的画面效果，其代表作“站立的文字”系列组雕，无论是高大的露天雕塑，还是展厅内的小型雕塑，当它们以方阵的形式陈列在人们眼前的时候，观众仿佛看到了这些形体富有生命力的生长。或宏伟，或茁壮，均表现出一种力的扩展感。在这里，表现主义或者抽象表现主义所具有的神秘感被代之以更加充满阳光感的正面颂扬。这些雕塑作品给人以厚重而柔软的感觉，在作者表现出对材料的敏感和独特理解的同时，将这些坚硬的石材化作温厚而柔和的生命。
“假设一个人在历史上、心理上和美学上越是返璞归真，事情就越单纯;由于它们更单纯，它们也就更深刻、更重要、更有价值。” 这段话可以作为理解刘永刚现有作品的注释。
“Earth Origin” – Liu Yonggang Art Exhibition

Earth origin is the theme of this exhibition. Earth is land, and origin is the source. Earth origin means that land is the source of growth for all things on earth. Liu Yonggang’s art originated from the art of the ultimate source of life and eulogizes beautiful life and great love. Liu Yonggang has broken the limitations of nationalities and national boundaries and integrated Chinese and Western cultures. He is an outstanding contemporary Chinese artist.
With the spirit of the traditional Chinese art as the point of departure, Liu Yonggang has blended the achievements of the Western modern art, explored the fields of abstract painting and abstract sculpture in depth and systematically, and formed a distinctive personal style. His works with lines as main parts strengthen the intensity and changes of lines and pursue simple but magnificent image effect. His representative work is the “Standing Words” sculpture series. When tall outdoor sculptures and small sculptures in the exhibition hall are displayed in the form of a square matrix in front of people, the audience seems to see the growth of these forms full of vitality. Their grandeur and sturdiness both manifest a sense of force extension. Here, the mysteriousness of expressionism or abstract expressionism is replaced by a positive eulogy full of sunshine. These sculpture works feel heavy and soft. While expressing his sensitivity to and peculiar understanding of materials, the sculptor turns these hard stone materials into gentle and mild life.
“The more a person returns to original simplicity historically, psychologically and aesthetically, the simpler things are; because they are simpler, they are profounder, more important and more valuable.” This sentence can be taken as a note for Liu Yonggang’s present works.
