在“时过境迁”这个成语中时间(时)和物质世界(境)被对应起来,代表着我们对世界的理解和感悟。对于我来说,它们有如佛教中色与空的问题。这个问题在不同的时代和生活环境中所呈现的意思往往有很大的差别,就像谈论“速度”的概念一样。在做录像作品的时候,我通常不知道一个镜头该短到什么地步才叫短,而与时间相平行的生活,如何才能被真实(完全没有遗漏)地记录?被这些问题困扰很久之后我终于决定用相片来做录像,一个静止的画面应该是时间的最小单位。为了把物随时流的最大流失量在有限的三分钟动画中做到最大量的收集,而又把这个最小的时间单位在我的记忆中做最长的停留,所以就发明了这些流程:快门、相片、打印、水墨、再拍摄、编辑、声音、最后形成动画。但是,,这些作品是动画还是非动的画?在对这些作品的解读中图像的连续性制造的到底是单个事物的运动,还是记忆的运动?事实上《墨水东西》不是一般概念中的动画,它几乎和呼吸一样不知不觉地把周遭的事物一一罗列。这是我这近四年来所创作的系列“动画”的基本想法。第一集《墨水城市》是转瞬即逝的城市印象;第二集《墨水日记》是日常生活与国际时事的无序并存;在这第三集《墨水东西》里,我想表达的仍然是时间和物质的传统命题。景物的消失中我们感受到了时间形状。一本护照、一个水龙头、一个胸罩和一本艺术杂志有什么样的关系?混乱的记忆也会随着时间的流失而消失。而宣纸对照片的复制,刚好能让我在这个过程中暂时抓住它。

There is an old idiom in Chinese, “things have changed with the passage of time,” which tells us our understanding to the world is nothing more but the time elapse. And as for me, time indicates the hollow and color as described in Buddhist scriptures. But this is so difficult question with too much difference for people in various living environment. In doing video work, I usually do not know how short a shot should be, and how to recode the life that is parallel to time and I might not miss something. Therefore, I finally came to photo because it is the shortest unit to recode an object. In order to keep the flowing of time and things in my 3-minute animation mostly and lengthen the most of the shortest unit of time in my memory, I innovated the process, that is: squeezing the shutter release, shooting, printing, ink painting, re-shooting, editing, recoding, and making of animation. I care nothing of the disputation: is it animation or non-animation; or, is the move is object moving or memory moving? I know only that my animation with ink can collect everything in life around, which always have me as exalting as my breathe when I enjoy the life list again. This is my experiences lasted for four years and more. An Ink City, Volume I, is my impression of the city that is fleeting every moment; My Ink Diary, Volume II is a disordered life we today name it as internationalist life; Ink Things, Volume III, is my traditional expression of the time and things elapsing, from the disappearance of things out of us, we may feel a fear or touch strongly that we ourselves are elapsing second by second, a passport, a water faucet, a bra, an art magazine, or the confused relationship amongst them all. Nothing could have been saved from time! But the rice paper and photo are so suitable for me to seize them temporarily. That’s all my struggle in the life flood that goes forward or backward every moment.
